Maccallum Pool

While it now has picture-perfect views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, this pool was built well before their time, starting as a simple rock pool in the early 1900s. The original pool was built by Australia’s first Olympic swimming champion Fred Lane, who won two races in the 1900 Olympics in Paris back before they had gold, silver and bronze medals. The pool is named after Hugh MacCallum, who led the local community in raising money for its development in the 1920s and created the pool that we still swim in today.
