Locals at Clovelly Beach had to wait longer than most to get their own ocean pool, which was finally built in 1962 after Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club President Geoff James stepped in. With hand-drawn plans James convinced the council they could save money on concrete along the promenade if they created the four-lane, 25-metre pool. While Geoff James passed away in 2003, his son James Jr. was the Surf Club’s president when it turned 100 in 2006 and can still be found patrolling the beach and swimming in the pool that has his father’s, and his own, name.
